The Alabama Baptist Conference of Associational Leaders (ABCAL) seeks to provides opportunities for Associational Leaders across the state to connect with one another for personal, professional, leadership, financial, and church development.

ABCAL works closely with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions Office of Associational Missions. It is divided into 12 districts with 72 associations. District representatives assist with goals and planning.

ARTICLE I – NAME

The official name of the corporation shall be the Alabama Baptist Conference of Associational Leaders, hereafter referred to as “ABCAL” or the “Organization.”

ARTICLE II - PURPOSE

The purpose of the Organization is to:

A. Advocate for associations and the roles of associational leaders within Alabama Baptist life.

B. Equip, encourage, and connect associational leaders, whether they are volunteers, bi-vocational, co-vocational, or full-time.

C. Offer resources, coaching, fellowship, and opportunities for professional development, as well as partnerships with other organizations to the same end.

D. Foster peer-to-peer networks among associational leaders.

E. Conduct all activities for the glory of God.

ARTICLE III – DOCTRINAL STATEMENT

ABCAL aligns with the current Baptist Faith & Message of the Southern Baptist Convention.

ARTICLE IV – MEMBERSHIP

A. Voting Membership is comprised of dues-paying associational leaders.

B. To be a voting member, individuals must belong to a Southern Baptist church.

C. Retired Associational Leaders are eligible for membership.

D. Associate Membership is open to non-Southern Baptist missional leaders who support our doctrinal statement of faith.

E. Associate Member candidates must have a recommendation of a current member of ABCAL.

F. Associate Members may attend and participate in meetings, gatherings and fellowships but do not have voting rights.

ARTICLE V - OFFICERS

The officers of ABCAL shall include the President, President Elect, Recording Secretary, and Financial Administrator. The ALSBOM AMS Director will serve as ex-officio of ABCAL officers and a non-voting member of the Executive Team. ABCAL Executive Team will be comprised of the ABCAL Officers.

ARTICLE VI – MEETINGS

The Executive Team will set the date, time and location for the Annual Conference, in collaboration, when permissible, with the associational leader of the Annual Conference location. Additional regional or other meetings may be organized by the Executive Team to support ABCAL’s purpose and mission.

ARTICLE VII – AMENDMENTS

Proposed amendments to this Constitution require a 3/4ths majority vote from the Executive Team and must be presented in writing 30 days in advance of any scheduled ABCAL meeting, ALSBOM AMS meeting or at one session of the Annual Conference. For a proposed amendment to pass there must a 2/3rds approval by the voting members of ABCAL at the meeting. Zoom attendance will suffice as in person.
